Game 6 > an "allstar" u10g match!

Peninsula u10G 'All Stars' 0 - LISA u10G Dolphins 0

The Peninsula u10G 'All Stars' visited the host LISA u10G Dolphins on Feb 26th for the final Super8 exhibition match of the LISA Academy 2005/2006 season. The LISA players where down to only 9 players and missing their goaltender Michaela who suffered a hand injury in her LISA league game on the previous day-- this was a huge loss for the team but Monique, Lindsey and Leslie all 'stepped up' and played 1/3 of the game each in net! We hope to have Michaela back in time for the tournaments! For Lindsey and Leslie it was their first time protecting the LISA goal and both looked very comfortable blocking shots(!) as a result their teammates responded with strong defensive play! Of the 11 Greater Victoria area soccer clubs the Peninsula club is known for always fielding excellent girls teams in LISA league play and this season is no different. Peninsula has 5 teams in U10 and it was not difficult for them to merge two of their teams into a 'All Star' team that quickly took the play to the LISA Dolphins!

The Peninsula team moved the ball extremely well in this game and looked to get the ball to their outside wingers. Many girls stood out on both teams including Frankie and Eva (for Peninsula) and the LISA coaches hope that all interested girls come to the Academy for next season's u11g team! The LISA players relied on individual skill during much of the first half and could not capitalize on missed opportunities because they just did not pass the ball as effectively as they had shown during Collvile Road practices! Coach Mario encouraged the players to look up and try to not always run into the Peninsula midfielders! During the second half the LISA girls started to move the ball better and had a few opportunities but rarely threatened with quality shots while the speedy Peninsula team almost capitalized on two quick counter attack rushes only to be thwarted once by the strong defensive play of Brianna (who played the whole game on defense) . All the LISA girls played well today and it was great seeing Thea again! Alynn and Haley also had particularily strong games! Due to the dark weather there where few good photos but a post-game hug between Coach Mario and Montana's father did not miss the lens of the photographer (below)! ;)

No support!

player of the week : Brianna

Our JdF player: Brianna is one of our most consistent players! She comes to each LISA practice with a desire to touch the ball and improve her play and when it comes round to games it shows! Well done Brianna!

Feb 19 Practice

On a cold sunny Sunday the LISA u10Gs took to the Upper Colville field for a practice that left more than a few players tired by the end of 90 minutes!
LISA Coach Mario started the session off with Stretches and 'Foot skills' aimed at ensuring the players would be warmed-up for a session that would focus on field positioning and ball movement.
(below) Natasha had a great practice winning many 1v1s today!(below) Montana was back for her second session and enjoyed the drills!(above) Monique waits for the 'go' to play the ball!Tim (Montana's Dad) joined in the practice
Mario joined in the action Meanwhile at Coach BobS' keeper training Michaela was working on 'calling out' to her defenders that she was playing the high balls!
Montana and Leslie 'reading' the play!
(below) "Beckham" (wearing both #7 and #23 !) was the centre of attention, with her happy attitude and her strong play Katherine is a player that enhances this team!
Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the practice! Just a reminder to everyone that we are playing Peninsula next Sunday be at UVIC#2A at 8.30am! Also if you have not yet gived RobertK $10 for the Gorge tourney please do so next Sunday!

Practicing in the sunshine!

Returning to Upper Colville after what seemed like a month away the players basked in the sunshine and greeted Coach Mario who led them in a Sunday of skill drills! Mario had seen most of the players the week before but we also welcomed newcomer Montana [LH] to our ranks and where sorry to not see Zoe who suffered an injury the previous week (we miss you Zoe, get well and return next season!) Mario wanted to make sure the players where all properly stretched, and at the same time ran them through some strength training [which the girls really enjoyed]!

(below) "In this physics lesson we see the proper angle for a well taken corner!"
Coach Mario took the players out for a Flying lesson, the purpose of which was proper movement as they moved the ball from their foot "inside to outside"
At the end of the practice we had a small sided game....

(above, some excellent footwork!)

"Dad, Coach Mario said you should work with me on my headers... wanna try?"
(above, "Incoming!")
