Game 6 > an "allstar" u10g match!
The Peninsula u10G 'All Stars' visited the host LISA u10G Dolphins on Feb 26th for the final Super8 exhibition match of the LISA Academy 2005/2006 season. The LISA players where down to only 9 players and missing their goaltender Michaela who suffered a hand injury in her LISA league game on the previous day-- this was a huge loss for the team but Monique, Lindsey and Leslie all 'stepped up' and played 1/3 of the game each in net! We hope to have Michaela back in time for the tournaments! For Lindsey and Leslie it was their first time protecting the LISA goal and both looked very comfortable blocking shots(!) as a result their teammates responded with strong defensive play!
Of the 11 Greater Victoria area soccer clubs the Peninsula club is known for always fielding excellent girls teams in LISA league play and this season is no different. Peninsula has 5 teams in U10 and it was not difficult for them to merge two of their teams into a 'All Star' team that quickly took the play to the LISA Dolphins!
The Peninsula team moved the ball extremely well in this game and looked to get the ball to their outside wingers. Many girls stood out on both teams including Frankie and Eva (for Peninsula) and the LISA coaches hope that all interested girls come to the Academy for next season's u11g team! The LISA players relied on individual skill during much of the first half and could not capitalize on missed opportunities because they just did not pass the ball as effectively as they had shown during Collvile Road practices! Coach Mario encouraged the players to look up and try to not always run into the Peninsula midfielders! During the second half the LISA girls started to move the ball better and had a few opportunities but rarely threatened with quality shots while the speedy Peninsula team almost capitalized on two quick counter attack rushes only to be thwarted once by the strong defensive play of Brianna (who played the whole game on defense) . All the LISA girls played well today and it was great seeing Thea again! Alynn and Haley also had particularily strong games!
Due to the dark weather there where few good photos but a post-game hug between Coach Mario and Montana's father did not miss the lens of the photographer (below)! ;)
