March 12 Parents-Players

During the Spring Break week the scheduled March 12th Sunday LISA u10G practice went ahead and as you can read from Jay's post-session report a good time was had by all who attended! Thanks to Jay [Bri's father] for the photos!
Was it a hand ball? Fancy foot work from the BaysU coaching staff ;)

Post practice report (Jay)>> "Coach Mario took the 6 kids that made it to practice on Sunday for a 15 minute warm-up and then decided to have a "friendly" against the parents. Here are some pictures of the contest. At half time, Pasta called in the ringer (Montana's Dad) to play with the kids and we played to a 6 all draw. It was a lot of fun andthe comments from the "old people[ed.comment]" team were all about how quick those kids are! "

Game 7 > Surrey United

Surrey United u10G 5 - LISA u10G Dolphins - 1
Surrey United Players put on an excellent show of individual talent and team playSurrey Players always moving in excellent formation ("triangles") and kept the play in the LISA end!Parents discussing the lack of a mid-field for LISA!
Sideline discussion: "Surrey United plays a very good system - they play their positions as a team, the LISA girls are playing chase the ball not the play, where it not for the Keeper the score should have been much higher for Surrey!"Half time, down 0-3 Coach Mario 'lays down the facts ' LISA defenders played very 'deep' in their end with the Surrey United u10 Dev Breakers team often forcing the play into the LISA end with an excellent transition game from side to side

Game two: LakeHill u11G ' Sunday Team' 1 vs Surrey United 3 (half time : 0-1)

Played on the shorter field Braefoot #3W this second match of the afternoon for Surrey and three of the LakeHill u11 players was played very differently. Once again u11G Reds player: MichaelaF started in goal to be replaced at half-time by the u11G Lightning keeper: Micha. The team was strengthened by the addition of the U12 player: Tessa who played the sweeper role and took many of the keeper kicks. In all 15 players wanted to play for LakeHill (out of 26) which meant that Coaches Robert and Mike had to introduce a 5 minute rotation and enforce a policy of staying on the bench! This ensured everyone got a regular amount of playing time and it worked very well!

Surrey started the game once again demonstrating their excelllent ball skills and passing game. Once again the LakeHill coaches had to tell their players to stay within a metre of their opponents at all times and 'first to the ball' the better running Surrey girls who kick much better where always good for a shot on goal if they where not quickly 'shut down'! The Surrey coach made some line-up changes between the games moving his excellent sweeper #11 to Goal and moving some other players to different positions. Surrey scored the only goal of the first half and deserved the lead based on their better style of play. LakeHill had two chances to score in teh first half including a golden opportunity from Justine but it was not to be.

The second half saw the LakeHill coaches sticking to their balanced player rotations but once again unable to make any concentrated passing plays or able to get the ball into the Surrey goal mouth area. Surrey scored a second and third goal mainly on the strength of excellent transition and good shooting while the LakeHill players where guilty of midfield marking lapses and not getting back to their positions quickly enough to 'shut down' the Surrey players. LakeHill did get on the scoreboard when Charlene was able to put the ball into the Surrey net from close range, the lead up to the goal saw two LakeHill players stopped by the Surrey keeper !

Coaching note to both LISA and LakeHill teams: on three occassions during the two games Ref Evan had to stop the play and tend to injured players. On one of those occassions the Ref did not blow his whistle but players instinctly stopped playing, Coach Robert was 'yelling' to the LakeHill player who had the ball to 'kick the ball out of bounds'. In 'Fair Play' if it is obvious that someone is injured the correct thing to do is to play the ball out of bounds so the ref will stop play and tend to the 'down' player. Both teams should drop to a knee and stay in their places until the injured player is either up or escorted off the field. What should then happen is that the ref will usually instruct the opposing team to play the ball back to the team that kicked it out of bounds that way play resumes where it left off!

LakeHill players post-game photo following an excellent effort (missing a few players, sorry) *below with ref and LH coaches)

If anyone has any photos please send them to me for inclusion !

Thanks to the Players, Coaches and Families of Surrey United who took the 7am ferry to Victoria! Thanks to the LISA and LakeHill players, coaches and parents, Ref Evan and the LakeHill Soccer Association (especially Scheduler Tiberio) for hosting the two matches under ideal weather conditions on March 19th

A field of Dreams...

Sunday March 5th 11am UpperColville was the u10G 'Home Field' as the 12 players that where able to attend their scheduled training session had sole use of the entire field not having to share with other LISA DDC Academy development teams! With Coach Mario at his U12B game Academy Head Coach Dave M took the reins and ran the LISA u10G Dolphins through a 90 minute practice. Main themes consisted of a good first touch, a good pass and passing (something which has been missing in recent exhibition games)!
Most parents elected to stay in the warmth of their automobiles as the weather conditions where cool and windy throughout the practice but the Girls did not complain instead many said at the water break 'I'm hot' (from Coach DaveM's practice)!

At the end of the practice CoachDaveM had a chat with the girls in which he tried to lay out some things he hopes to see the girls put into practice during their upcoming Gorge Tournament games April 1/2!

While 11 LISA girls where busy practicing, at the other end of the pitch, LISA keeper Michaela was enjoying a 90 minute 'tutorial' on the finer points of Keeper work. CoachBobS worked on M's Goal Kicks including punting the ball over the distant net..
Then CoachBob 'drilled' a few balls at Michaela and she made many diving attempts to keep them out of the net! At the end of the practice the girls went through their customary 'cool down' drill.

Just a reminder to everyone that next Sunday March 18th is a regular 11am-12.30 LISA u10G training session at Upper Colville we hope to see everyone attend!
